Things we find along the way…

Apparel retailer tapping into kids via thier mobile phone

In the states apparel and accessories retailer Stage Stores Inc. are promoting back-to-school savings with a mobile coupon campaign, sent direct to kids via their mobile phone.

Teaming up with Cellfire a free coupon service where standard data or usage charges apply depending on the carrier or data plan, to target junior and young men’s customers, mostly teen guys and girls who aren’t being exposed to our traditional ad channels: television, radio and newspapers. Consumers are alerted to various sales and opportunities to get mobile coupons via in-store signage and online advertising

The assumption here is that kids that are no longer watching TV, listening to the radio or reading newspapers are in stores looking for additional discounts.

While I have no doubt that this is a nice example of some of the cool things we can now do with a mobile phone. I would be interested in where these studies come from and the age of the kids being targeted. If this is a back to school promotion surly the mums and dads of these kids are a more likely target market.
